What can I do

Hi I need some advice on what I can do.

I got married 22/9/2004. On 30/06/2007 we applied for divorce. I received a degree nisi but we never applied for decree absolute.

So as I understand I'm still married and have been for the last 6 years and 2 months. My wife now lives in France but comes to the uk every now and then.

Is there anything I can apply for? Do I need to get my decree absolute first?

Are you aware that your right of residence is coupled to your spouse's residence in the UK? There are several threads here dealing with divorces. Please read through at least some of them, http://www.immigrationboards.com/viewforum.php?f=45

No I'm not aware and I do not really know what that means. I read through some of the posts and I'm really confused. There seems to be alot of special scenarios. Does the above mean that I'm illegal here if my wife is not with me? Can I apply for anything to get some rights?

So it looks like I need to make the application whilst she is in London and working here as well. But she is not currently working here but she has done in the time that we've started the divorce application?

I suggest to read the second message here but technically you are still married. Either way, your wife would have had to stay with you or you should have sought an independent residence title/visa in your own right. I believe you need legal advice from a competent lawyer.
