passport return

hello everyone,i have appllied for eea2 in january2011.my eea family permit was expired in 5th of feb2011 and i have recieved confermation letter says it takes 6 months.now my wife needs to go to her country can i ask her passport from ukba. will it effect to my application?i am non eea and my wife eea national from latvia.
