I came to the UK as a student with a valid student visa) in the September 2005.

On September 2006, I was travelling from Belfast through Ireland, England, France and other countries by a Eurolines bus to visit my fiance in Hungary (who is my wife now). I had a valid Hungarian Family Visit Visa Type D to enter Hungary.

After crossing Ireland, an immigration officer has stopped me at Holyhead Ferry Terminal Ireland asking why I have no visa for Ireland. I explained him that I had inquired from Irish Immigration Services that Indian citizens who are transiting through Ireland and the duration of their stay in the country is less than 24 hours, require no transit visa providing they have a valid visa for the destination country and tickets for the travel.

I had all the necessary documents (WHICH I SHOWED TO HIM LIKE MY PASSPORT, HUNGARIAN VISA AND MY TICKET), but he took me to an office, took a picture of me and put a comment on my passport about the incident. He didn’t put any stamp and didn’t write anything on my passport but he did tell me that he has scan my passport and put the comment ELECTRONICALLY in my passport.

I was not given any official papers by that immigration officer neither did he tell me his name.

Since then, I have left and returned to the UK several times, and every time I enter, the immigration officers ask me about the incident and why my entry was refused. I find this very humiliating as all my papers were correct and valid, I have never been refused entry or visa for any country.


I contacted the Irish immigration services and they confirmed that as an Indian national, I did not need an Irish transit visa and the officer was wrong to stop me at that time, but I have to contact the British Home Office to remove that comment from my passport.

I did contact with HO and they said that they will take steps so that this record won’t show up in the system. I will see when I will reenter the UK.


WHERE CAN I COMPLAIN THAT I AM A VICTIM OF FALSE DO AND HARRASEMENT??/ I DONT KNOW ID NO OF THE IMMIGRATION OFFICER WHO STOPED ME....

I suppose you can use the normal complaints procedure of UKBA to start with.
Apparently they have already agreed to remove the report about this incident, so I don't see what exactly you want to achieve more (almost five years after this happened).

I also suppose UKBA can still trace which IO's were on duty at the time and place of the incident, so not having an ID of this individual IO should not restrict your possibilities.

thanks mate for reply. my problem is that it was quite for a while means for some months no one asked anything about what happend in N.Ireland and then suddenly from this year its again popping out. its so bad when they told you to sit asidein front of other people. you feel like a culprit.

i understand they are doing their jobs and no hard feelings or disrespect for the guys. but itsnot good for me to look like a culprit.. youknow what i mean...

So they actually refused you entry to the UK? And sent you back to Ireland? And then what happened?

You can actually refused to answer their questions about this. They can not deny you entry to the country if you are traveling with your wife based on not answering about history in their file. But expect a small fight.

No they didn't deport me back to Northern Ireland. The officer told me he has put anote in the pc and he will allow me tocontinue my journey to London via Ireland and next time i must have a visa.

Its just infair for them to put remarks for something which was lawful..

You should request your file, and specifically ask to see any remarks added by officers. You can then request to correct the file if there is anything incorrect.

Hi Guru I will request it soon but to be honest i don't think anything will change as i told Border agency what happend. but they just told me their officers are doing their duty.

next time if anything will happen i gonna have a word with the seniour immigration officer present in the airport
