My wife just got her VAF5 Family permit in her home country. I know it's valid 6 months from the day she enters UK, but how soon does she need to come to UK before the visa expires.

The EEA family permit should clearly mark the period of validity with a from and a to date. Yours doesn't?

VALID

I thought a Family Permit is valid from the date of issue and lasts for six months.

So, even if you don't travel to the UK it will expire in six months.

"If the EEA national has not travelled to the UK within 6 months of the date of application, the EEA family permit would not be considered as valid."

But she could always apply for a new one if this expires...

Hi there! Can you please tell me more about VAF5? My situation is bit complicated as Im Polish married to Indian and at the moment we r living in uk. My husbands passport got stolen and his visa as well. We got flights booked to India in 2 weeks and we both really want to go but my husband wont have valid visa till then, so can he apply from India for VAF5? And if he would be able to work on that visa?? Our plan would probably be to apply for VAF5 and then after coming back here to apply for EEA2. I am currently working in UK and was living here for the last 6,5 years. What do you think??

In general, you should be able to apply for an EEA Family Permit in India. Your husband will need to provide his passport, your marriage certificate, your passport (or ID card), and proof that you are working in the UK.

The only problem is that it may take a while to process. How long is your trip?

Also note that if you have been working for the last 6.5 years in the UK, then you have Permanent Residence in the UK. You can, if you want, apply for British citizenship.

An EEA family permit application in India would take around three to four weeks to process. You would also need to book an appointment to attend biometrics (but you could do that now). Factor that into your plans.

My husband had biometrics done in UK about a year ago- does that count??

You could send an email to the visa services people and get a definitive answer, but I believe that they will want to do it again. They generally require the applicant to attend their centre to make the application and take biometrics for that application.

Advantage with completing PDF is that you can write answers as opposed from being prompted into giving them.

If you follow the link I provided, then at the bottom of the page, it clearly has Kosovo under the on-line only list.

Why did you think it can't be done online?

Ok, so if I want an appointment first thing Monday morning, would I get one? Possibly not. Do I need to wait a week (seems reasonable) or a year (not at all reasonable)?

you can see the appointment times that are available to choose. The wainting time for my wife is 5 days since that day she applied online. She is going this wednesday to the British embassy with the application. So let's hope they don't turn it down or else I have to move back to Sweden wich is krazy

The appointment business all adds time to the process. I suppose it can help matters if it makes the whole process more efficient.

Remember "as soon as possible and on the basis of an accelerated procedure".
