Hello I currently live in england and I am engaged to an American. I have been researching various visa options and came across the EEA family permit. Which seems to say that under the Surinder Singh case I can find work in say Ireland, get married and then bring my spouse back to england with the EEA family permit. I quote off the ukvisas.gov.uk site that:

"It does not matter if the only reason the British national went to another Member State was to exercise an economic Treaty right was so that he/ she could come back to the UK with his/ her family members under EC law."


Is this correct? can I really find work in ireland, get married and then bring my spouse back to live in england?

how long would I have to work in ireland for to be able to do this?

if I had a job in ireland and we got married would my spouse automatically be able to live with me in ireland straight away or would we need to meet certain criteria before he could stay?

Are there certain criteria financially that you need to meet? or do you get the permit regardless of your income?

Could I move back to england with my spouse without me having a job in england or would I first need to find a job in england before I could get the permit?

Getting married is a big and life changing transition.

If you are married and are working in Ireland, you husband is fully allowed to be there with you. Be clear that Ireland is not the best place to find a job at the moment.

You could also both move to any other EU member state (initially excluding the UK).

And after a while working there, you can decide to both move back to the UK on the basis of EU law.
