Letter from sponsor for EEA family permit

Hi,
I am trying to compile all the required documents to submit an EEA family permit application. I have a following question
* My wife and daughter are EEA national and my wife is exercising her treaty rights in the UK. Do I need letter from her explaining that I will be joining her in the UK as a non EEA family member of hers? or it doesn't matter that much to have a letter from sponsor? if I do need that then is it possible she write it, send me via email and I print it here?
