EEA 2 Fresh Application

Well, I had hoped to be writing on this forum today about the processing time for my non-EU wife's residence card application after we (I'm British) arrived on an EEA FP from Spain last October.
As it turns out, her request was rejected because we failed to provide proof of my employment in Spain and out joint residential address in Spain, even though we checked and double-checked at the Madrid Embassy if such documents were required again seeing as they were put in the "system" for the FP application.
To complicate matters, my wife's FP expired last week and so the UKBA has refused to return her passport.
Rather than appeal, we will make a fresh EEA2 applicaton with the extra paperwork but it will have to wait until I know if I have been granted a second (UK) passport as I've a forthcoming business trip which is unavoidable.
So, a couple of quick questions to put our minds at ease:
1. Is my wife under any threat of deportation? If so, how long before the heavies come knockng on the door?
2. We will be providing my Spanish work contract, pay slips, tax records and council bills which are all in Spanish/Catalan. Do these need to be translated into English? If so, does it have to be through an official translator here in the UK, or in Spain?
3. Do second applications get processed quicker/slower than first ones bearing in mind we now have the caseworker's name and 90% of our details are already on file?
4. Does anyone have an email address so we can inform the UKBA we will be making a fresh application rather than lodging an appeal?
5. Has anyone ever got to speak to anyone at the EEA unit in Liverpool? I must have tried 120 times, sent several emails and got absolutely nowhere!
