Open new bank account

My partner will be returning to the UK with me on Tuesday on a Spouse Visa.

She wants to open a bank account right away. I understand she will need proof of address i.e. a bill or contract, so what is the best easiest way to do this?

We will be living with my parents so no utility bills will be in either of our names and she won't be able to get a phone contract without a bank account. Bit of a catch 22.

If anyone could tell me their experience with this it would be a great help.
Thank you.

Hi there, ideally would be better if ur partner would find a job b4 opening a bank account. Then one thing can link to another.
Banks will accept a national insurance number letter (which is required for working in uk anyway) and another option would be to make a uk provisional driving license, u do it on post office n does not require any test. Also acceptable as a proof of address. Cheers

I have just been through this with my Fiancée who is currently here on a Fiancée Visa. She was able to open a savings account with Lloyds TSB using only her Passport. I have been an account holder with them for about 10 years and they were happy for me to complete a form confirming her address
