Dual Citizen Inquiry

I am a Canadian/British citizen (born in Canada, British by decent) and I hold valid up to date passports for BOTH countries. I am moving to Edinburgh in September 2022 to attend college fulltime. I already have a permanent place to live arranged. I am planning on remaining permanently after graduation. I have never lived in the UK before. I am hoping for advice on applying for a NINo, how to register with the NHS, how to transfer my driver license, and how my taxes will work. Anything else I should be aware of before or after arriving?

Advice or direction would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

- applying for a NINo -> https://www.gov.uk/apply-national-insurance-number
- how to register with the NHS -> register with a local GP surgery
- how to transfer my driver license -> https://www.gov.uk/government/organisat ... ing-agency
- and how my taxes will work -> if you are employed your employer will deduct income tax (PAYE) / NI and pay it over to HMRC, tax returns not normally required -> https://www.gov.uk/government/organisat ... ue-customs

Note - important: for some public services and benefits a "habitual residence test" may be carried out - you may need to have lived in the UK for a certain period of time, even as a British citizen. Here is a link relating to NHS: https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... rpose-tool
