Once you have arrived in UK, you can find lot of ads in off license shops or you could also find at a specific place in one of the below links
http://www.rightmove.co.uk
http://www.findaproperty.com/
http://www.gumtree.com/

Sim card you will get in 2-3 days, Lebara/Lyca Mobile. Local calls are slightly expensive but calls to India will be much cheaper. Once you have some address proof you can get a connection with better tariffs from T-Mobile or O2
Most of the homes have Broadband connection included in the rent, unless you want a separate connection

Manu,

As you guys are new to London, it may not really find suitable places to live temporarily. Suggest looking at the cheaper but really decent hotel chains like Premier Inn, Hotel Ibis and Travel Lodge - you can also bargain for a discount if you guys plan on staying for 2 weeks at a stretch....also note additional costs for food but you would have that in any temporary place you stay as you wont be able to cook (though you would have the use of a microwave)

Personal suggestion is not to move into places you have no clue of....unless members on this forum suggest some really good sites with reputable listings for temp accommodation

Best of luck
KP

The first two are search portals which will list what letting agencies have on offer for a particular area.

Foxtons are letting agents, good;but you might find the properties they represent are on the higher side of the spectrum.

I can remember when I first arrived in London a little over 4 years ago. Before coming over, I did book a room with http://www.accommodationlondon.net/. It was a large house in Willesden Green, about 10mins walk from the tube station.

Don't expect the rooms to look anything like the photos on the website; however, it was relatively cheap, flexible and gave me time to look for a more permanent accommodation.
