I am trying to search for residential areas so that two of us can have easy commute to Liverpool Street and Canary Wharf for work.

We checked out the Gants Hill area, it looks decent. However, little extra commute, when you see (on tube map) Stratford is a major station. But, I didn't hear great things about Stratford.

We have budget of around 1,000 pounds excluding council, elec, gas etc.
We don't want to go with agents to help us out. We have one month to find out accommodation of our choice.
can you suggest on areas to look for? or websites to try out? also, if you know some place near you, please drop us PM.

THANKS FOR YOUR TIME :)

We are searching over internet for areas like Canada Water, Canning Town, Gants Hill at the moment.

I live in Redbridge next to gantshill. It's a decent area but bit expensive. You can def do a nice 1 bedroom flat for £1000 a month excluding bills. Gantshill area is Band B so council tax is around £120 a month FYI

From GantsHill take Central line to Stradford and change for DLR -> Canary-wharf and other person can get off straight at Liverpool street. Journey time is 30-35 mins approximately.

Try searching on Rightmove or Findaproperty.

You can go with agents but they can be very tricky and hit you with a huge bill. Be-careful. Also stay well away from gumtree. Lot of scams out there. Never ever fall for that Western union trick.

Good luck.

Thanks Madona,

Gants Hill/Redbridge seems to be suiting my needs considering that it is central line. (Went once for some 15min to Gants Hill)

Thanks for telling me about Western union trick. Didn't hear of it earlier.
In what order you will rank Leyton, Leytonstone, Wanstead and Gants Hill to try for?

Hi Abyss,

Can you please tell me where is Tonbridge on the tube map?
Tube map is the one, I know about for the moment.

Google and maps.google didn't help me much. May be I am not putting the right key words to help it.

Hi Friends,

Can you suggest some good property agents to help finding the rental.
I tried online for findaproperty and rightmove Sunday afternoon, but I am yet to get any response from anyone.

Only a single response is from 'spencers'.

Can you suggest some more agents. I am more keen on Gants hill area (and north ilford, redbridge etc).

You are going to have to go out and walk into various estate agents offices. They will all give you the excuse that the properties you saw on the website or in their windows were "just let out". You are going to have to register with a few and see if they have any matches. You just have to register with as many as possible.

Btw, correction to Madona's post - areas do not have council tax bands, but rather properties (it's based on the value of the property), but the figure quoted was more or less right.

Other options is to go privately and look at Gumtree - there are loads of properties on there - but look out for scammers.

Based on the easy commute you are looking for, most of the areas along the Central line (east side) should be suitable.

Hey Mulderpf,
Just after I posted on the forum, I got two different calls.
As you suggested, I am going to walk in the area and register with few agents especially at Gants hill.
