Umbrella Company - UK Employer?

Hi all!
I start working as a contractor but I intend to do so via an Umbrella company. As I'm aware the evidence I need to show on settlement is the letter 'from a UK employer'. So maybe someone knows if an Umbrella company is still considered as "a UK employer"? I'm asking because my employer who'd work through an Umbrella company is actually abroad.
