Hi,

My child and I are on a dependent visa that is valid until next year. My wife recently switched her visa. My plan is to switch my child's dependent visa in the coming days and then switch my dependent visa next year. I am wondering if I can do that, or if we should switch our visas, both for my child and me, at the same time.

My wife's visa was a skilled worker and she switched to GTV. So, my child and I are on tier 2 dependent (valid till next year) and we will switch to GT dependent.

You should apply at the same time as the child.

Even if you apply for the child now, they will only receive a visa with the same expiry date as your visa, not your spouses new GTV visa.

Thank you for your reply! I'd like to clarify that my child and I share the same visa expiry date, which is next year, as they are linked to my wife's skilled worker visa. However, now that she has switched to the GTV, I'm wondering if it's possible for me and my child to apply to switch our dependent visa at a different time (for example, apply for my child's visa this month and apply for myself after few more months). I hope this helps clarify the situation.

You should apply together.

The immjgration rules do not allow a child to get a visa for a longer duration than the parent whose visa (whichever visa) expires first. Meaning if you apply now for the child, the new visa will expire at the same time as your current visa you currently hold , ie next year. The childs visa will not be granted with an expiry date that is the same as your partners new GTV visa.

So if you apply now for the child, you will have to apply again when you apply.
