Switching from Exceprional Promise to Exceptional Talent

Hi everyone,

I’m currently on a Global Talent visa under the Exceptional Promise category — I was endorsed about three years ago.

I’m now considering applying for a new endorsement under Exceptional Talent, with the hope of qualifying for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) after 3 years, rather than waiting 5 years on the Promise route.

I’d really appreciate any insight into the following:

1. If I get a new endorsement under Exceptional Talent and apply for a new visa, would I become eligible for ILR after 3 years on that new route?

2. Would the 3 years I’ve already spent in the UK on the Exceptional Promise route count toward the 3-year ILR requirement under Exceptional Talent?

3. Can I make this switch from within the UK, or would I need to apply from abroad?

I tried reaching out to UKVI, but they only respond to enquiries submitted from inside the UK. I’d be grateful for any advice, experiences, or pointers to official guidance.

Thanks in advance!

Are you working outside the UK with a valid GT visa?

I think it's better if you contact Tech Nation directly to enquiry.

Personally I don't know how you can do this.

Firstly I guess your current endorsement as an exceptional promise might need to be withdrawn by Tech Nation (not UKVI) and then assess a new application as an exceptional talent, which in my view would be very unlikely.

Even if the withdrawal doesn't happen first or is not required, I don't see how the same endorsing body will "re-assess" a new application from the same person wanting to "upgrade" from promise to talent.

I understand you might have made some progress in your career along these years but I don't think this is grounds for them do this.

Again, it's better to contact Tech Nation directly - I would be cautious though.

On the time spent on the current GTV, yes it counts for ILR irrespective of what category you have.
