Dear all,

A quick one on my friend’s behalf:
My friend has just turned to British citizen:
His wife is still on global talent/skilled worker’s dependent visa, which will be expiring in next few months. I wanted to ask if he can apply for her extension on previous global talent expired visa or he has to apply for her as a (new) spouse visa. If the latter is correct, will the clock reset or the time spent on global talent dependent visa will add up to the new spouse visa route(making eligible after 5 yrs to ILR). Currently she only needs 1 year after hr visa expiry for ilr.

Any response will be appreciated!
Many thanks
Regards

A frequent question lately - not an expert on work visas or ILR, but:
Becoming a British citizen doesn't change anything in terms of your dependents, they still have to apply for all necessary extensions needed to gain ILR.
Other will comment further.

The dependant partner will continue on the same visa path they hold, in this case as a Global Talent dependant and the extension will be for 3 years. They do NOT need to switch to the spouse route.

The fact that the lead applicant is now a British citizen is irrelevant.
