Administrative Review (AR) chances — Global Talent Dependant Child refusal

Hi everyone, I’m looking for opinions on my Administrative Review (AR) chances.

I came to the UK in 2022 as a Child Student (I was a minor). I lived with my sisters and was fully dependent on my parents financially. In Nov 2024, my father got a Global Talent visa and my whole family moved to the UK. After completing my degree in June 2025, I applied (23 June) to switch into the Global Talent Dependant Child route.

UKVI refused my application only on the age requirement under Appendix Children CHI 1.1 / CHI 1.2 — basically saying I was 20 and my last visa was a Student visa, not a Dependant-child visa.

My AR argues that:
  • CHI 1.2 was impossible for me to meet because my parents didn’t have UK status when I entered the UK (so I could never have applied as their dependent child earlier).
  • I have always been dependent and never lived independently.
  • The caseworker didn’t apply dependency guidance correctly.
  • They ignored family circumstances and the fact my father declared me as his dependent in his Global Talent application.
  • No rule says a child must enter the UK after their parent
  • If I was clearly ineligible, they should have rejected the application as invalid, not take biometrics + apply full eligibility rules.
My questions:
  • Has anyone ever seen an AR succeed in a CHI 1.2 refusal?
  • Does an “impossible requirement” argument ever work at AR stage?
  • Realistically, does this have any chance or is JR the only route?
Would appreciate honest opinions and experiences.

Your AR will fail. You dont qualify as a dependent as you are over 18.

AR is for when UKVi have made an error. Refusing you for a GTV dependent visa is NOT an error.
