So why are you asking for advice on an immigration board?! Surely you can just sign up with agencies etc?

I would like to know the other ways for getting a job here. Agency doesn't works for me. Agency never works for me as they charged too much. So I thought to check it out here and it might works for me.

Agencies charge too much?! They are free! (well, to the employee anyway).

For IT work you have 5 options:
- use an agency
- look for job ads in papers/magazines/websites and reply to them
- apply to companies speculatively
- ask a friend who works in the industry for leads
- or for rubbish work right at the bottom of the ladder, you could find something in a job centre, though unlikely

Agencies are by far the easiest option.

I have tried it and am still trying and hoping to get something done.

Option 1. Agencies. One of the recruitment agency, I had a terrible experience with them. I had to pay £5 for initial registration and then when I got temporary job in IT they were charging me £200 every month.

Option 2. Friends in my IT or anyother field- not really...I dont have any massive big list of friends who would assist me in this. I have only 1 or 2 few friends who are in different fields way way different.

Option 3. Job Ads on paper and online. I have applied it but I think, they prefer to hire someone who is British from this land (I mean british white not an immigrant).

Option 4 rubbish one, hmm...well check it out, those one are for graduate or school leavers.

I even tried to change the line of my job and get into something totally different like trainee consultant or recuritment consultant but the problem I am facing is, ppl sitting in the company doesn't want to give you a job unless someone who is british born- fair enough they have the right first.

I know I have seen this. I applied for a job as a trainee consultant I would get a letter saying sorry you dont have enough experience. Then, why do these companies advsertise saying looking to change career, equal opportunities, no matter what qualification or experience you hold, we will train you and provide you the best skills that would this and that. When I applied it, I dont have an experience. Check this out, when my friend (who is british male) applied for the same job he had no experience and no sales expertise as me, and he got the job even that lady filled half of the form for him.

Heart breaking stuff man... breaks your heart..anyway Now I am considering to move anywhere in the UK. Not just one job in one place but all over the UK.

Thanks for your all input. Welcome anymore.

Well all I can say is that in my IT department (with about 150 staff) only around 25% are 'British white'. We have around 30 Indian work permit/HSMP holders. I'm recruiting graduates at the moment and we have offered more jobs to foreign students (who need work permits) than British ones, mainly because they're better qualified. Perhaps you're living in the wrong part of the country or applying to the wrong sort of companies?

Maybe he had a better written application? Who knows?

To be quiet frank, if you're not getting any interviews despite applying for the right sort of jobs, it sounds as though you need to brush up on your CV skills.

Good luck!

To be honest I typed the letter using the same format as mine and all that. Anyway, My friend is not working for them but he wanted to make a point with HR Officer and I am glad he did.

Qualification, well I am an IT graduate, MCSE 2003 Certified, Certified Novell Network Administrator and now planning to be take up a course in ODA after I am finished with MCSE 2003.

My CV has been brushed up many times.

Anyway what part of UK you are from? What kind of company is yours?

With all due respect, but I guess that discrimination comes many times from within. Once that is deal with, life normally gets better.

UK_yankees ... anyone posting on this Board does so freely ... no one gets paid. It is really a Board concerning immigration and related issues and as already pointed out to you this may not be the most appropriate place to get the advice you seek.

The last thing you what is hundreds of comments saying "Don't know".

Any more prompts from you in the topic and it will get locked.

Have you tried finding work as an IT support contractor? You seem to have very specific work-based skills. It can often be easier to find contract work than permanent.

London; a bank.

philgeorge999 thanks for your kind words as well. I have broad range of IT skills but I try not to write too much. Anyway, I shall try to keep myself off.
