Well I dont know a lot in this domain but I knew a few guys with such skills who are mainly limited to core development or Operational roles.

At the moment, for such areas, the pay is really less and there arent that many jobs around. Remember that a lot of low level development and Ops jobs are outsourced to vendors so there will hardly be opportunities to jump on.

There are a lot of guys in Ops roles in Unix - HP UX , Solaris. Same goes for Perl, Python - and all this I refer to is in the IT Telecom domain. Some other members may be able to throw more light on other domains

thanks KP,

Well I would see the interview situation before coming there. I would really have to negotiate the best possible option that I get in hand.

Also I would check the situation for myself (10 yrs) exp before taking up some employment there and then see whether its really worth while coming to UK.

Yes do make sure you check everything - as your role is only around system admin and now that you have said you have 10yrs in this line you should be able to secure Support or Operational roles that pay in the mod £30k range. On top of this, you can add on call money for every week you work out of hours or do releases/patches/maintenance.
But just note that you will see more Support jobs for 1st, 2nd and 3rd line roles than plain vanilla System Admin jobs in the UK

yes true, but I have done more than level 1 ,2 and 3 support .
I have a good background of computer programming as well.

Let me see what happens to calls/interviews. Frankly I wont be surprised If I don't get any calls for interviews at all.

Let me tell you right now that for your domain forget getting any calls if you are not physically present in the UK. Hell, guys with bulk load of experience are finding it tough out here so there is no hope for anyone outside the UK.

Its not practical to think you will get any call of any sorts unless you have skills that are not common to the UK. And from what you have described, there are loads of profiles with your skillsets out here. If you are serious to settle in the UK, and confident of your skills then best bet would be to come here and try it out for 3 to 6 months at a min. But given the current situation, no one will advice for such a drastic step especially if you have a nice job back home. The market is really pathetic with a single job advert getting more than 50 applications!!!!

All the best

True. I would risk a high paying job in India, as I am sure my skills would fit in UK (but not in current economic situation), in case nothing works out you always have a home back in India.
