work permit application for ACCA PQ questions

Post by Mawer » Wed Dec 21, 2005 9:11 pm

Dear Sirs,

I am an ACCA finalist curently ouside the UK. I got an offer of employment from one security company based in London. I used to work for them as security 3 years ago while a student. Now they want me to be in charge of finances/payroll/invoicing/credit control/dealing with factoring company.../.

The company is growing and got some suppliers from East Europe, and intend to open on of the offices there. Hence, the possition requires to speak foreing languges.

The company is willing to employ me, but i have to do myself in relation to work permit. I have contacted one well known immigration advisors com, but he quoted around £1000 for their services plus i have to do most the work myself.

Questions:

1. Is anybody had experience making application as ACCA finalist for a Finance possition
2. Cannot find list of Shortage occupations. Are there any finance positions? Please e-mail link(should be www.workingintheuk.gov.uk, cannot find)
3. is anybody have used the solicitor making the application? Can you adviice one. is it big difference if you got one or not?
4. I stragle with Job description/position. "Finansial Controller...or..
5. Advertisement. Internet? Newspapers? JobcentrePlus?
6 What should be min wages for this type of possition?

Thank you for your advice.

I can't be of much help. But the important thing to bear in mind is that the COMPANY must apply for the work permit for you. You cannot do this yourself, irrespective of whether you have a solicitor or not.

Most companies choose to use a solicitor, as it is better use of their time to pay someone who knows what they are doing.

Regarding shortage occuptations:

The only financial one is for actuaries.

To be honest I think you'll find it difficult to get a work permit unless you get one through a large multinational. Small companies rarely succeed!

Thank you for your advice
If the possition is not on the shortage occupations list, how it can impact on the application?

Thanks

It means that the employer must show they have advertised the position for a minimum of 4 weeks and have not obtained a suitably qualified candidate from the resident labour pool (RLP) = British Citizens, Other EEA Nationals and those with Indefinite Leave To Remain (Permanent Residence). Unless you are exceptional no employer will bother go through this hassle since its unlikely the application will succeed. Shortage occupations dispense with a need for advertising - as per the title there is not enough of the skillset in the RLP.
