National insurance number!!!advice plz

hey guys,
i m going to apply for my NATIONAL INSURANCE this month,but i have read in some site saying it requires at least 12 weeks for us to receive NI from the time we have applied.
Is true that it takes 12 weeks to get NI?

Not necessarily.

You may get your NI number in 4 weeks also. 12 weeks is the maximum time.
Now a days I think they are not sending a separate card which actually takes around 12 weeks.

So NI number on approval letter you may get in 4-6 weeks on average if there is no problem in your case.

Yes, right... You will get the number in few weeks. Then the card will follow after few more weeks.
