Is it risky to change employer 8 months before the expiry

currently I don't have enough points to extend. my visa is valid until June 2012. and I'm currently employed and I earn 36000 pound. if I continue with my employer I can extend the visa in March.
I recently was offered a job which pays 50,000 pound, significantly higher than my current job.

if I change my employer now, there could be 3 scenarios:
1) I will move to the new company, and will continue to work there.
2) they will cancel the role before I start and I will stay without job and without visa. it is uncommon we we can not know.
3) they will fire me within the probation period, that doesn't mean I'm not good enough we can never know what happens.

the other scenario that I stay with my current employer until I extend the visa at least I know that my current employer is satisfied by me.


Am I too afraid or is it normal to think this way?

You are the only one who can accurately assess the risks. Based on your really confusing post, nobody can even make any suggestions, because it's not clear whether you can or can't extend next year.

Some things I'd think about if I was you:

1. Is your current employer simply grossly underpaying you that you were able to take such a jump in salary or is the new job so much more demanding? This will answer the question on whether a company will be happy enough with you and let you stay on after a probation period.
2. Why did you go for interviews if you don't intend on taking a job?
3. Are you really worse off being fired and not being able to apply for extension or working for a company and not being able to apply for an extension?

If you feel it is a Risk then its not worth taking it just for the sake of good salary,
If you stay (extend sucessfully) you can earn as much you want .

I changed jobs with 6 month to my extension, and complicated things for my self, salary slips, tax docs, bank statements are required for both the companies and then requesting earlier company HR to answer any questions from the HO.
