How to approach for a job?

Post by gujalls » Thu May 07, 2009 7:09 am

Hi All,

Please shower your experience and guidance in this topic.

After reaching U.K.,

Q1: What is the general and successful way of approaching for jobs ?

Q2: Is it okay if we apply online from various job sites?

Q3: Should we follow up for all the jobs we apply?

Q4: Should we go and meet consultants?

Please let me know, how to go about !!!

Thanks
Guj

OK, Water pours from shower head.
Suds up with soap, rinse.
Squeaky clean.

republique,

If you have something to share, you can do.
But not to tease or hurt someone.

If you don't wanna help. Stay calm.
Don't irritate.

Thanks
Guj.

I will try my best to answer as per my experience:

Q1: What is the general and successful way of approaching for jobs ?
-Good CV: like, competencies with examples, achivments
-Register on main job sites, like cwjobs, jobserve, monster and others

Q2: Is it okay if we apply online from various job sites?
There is no problem in that, only keep an eye that you send your CV to one agency for one opening only once

Q3: Should we follow up for all the jobs we apply?
If you feel that your skills/expereince has a good match with opening, I would strongly recommend to call agency next day

Q4: Should we go and meet consultants?
I think this is of no use, I tried this but found of no use, but if you have time you can try that way before any UK interview you get some exposure.

I hope this can be of some use.

I would say that is not a problem, but before coming here start applying with a UK address and phone number, that way you will get a feeling how people are reacting to your CV. And if you are lucky you may have some interview also lined up before you arrive here. I don't know much about JAVA market but still I think one month may not be enough looking at current market.

Also there is one more thing, June to August is usually holiday period, so there is a negative point that projects usually get deferred till September but there is also a positive point that people(Offcourse British) go for holidays which leaves some scope for contract jobs to fill the gap.

I think there is no problem in using your relatives address as long as that is in UK and your relatives agree to use there address and with regard to phone number, I think it is better if you can provide mobile number also in addition to Skype number. And make sure that if you are giving someone elses mobile number, he/she should tell the consultant(if any call is received for you) that leave your details and you will call back.
