Proof Accomodation? - UK Spouse Visa

Post by Hammer2001 » Fri Jan 24, 2014 8:38 am

We intend to apply for my wife's spouse visa later this year.

We are looking at applying soon after I visit her in April, so that I can take all necessary paperwork out with me.
The one query is that of accommodation.
I have currently exchanged on a new build house which for which completion will be in June.
The intention was to apply for the spouse visa in April/May, with a view to her coming here in July/August once I had moved into the new house.
My concern is that in April I won't have the necessary proof of accommodation, as I won't "legally" own the house until completion in June.

Does anyone know if exchanging contracts would be enough proof, or will we have to wait until I have moved into the house the apply for the visa?

I think you would need actual proof of ownership.
Would anyone be willing to allow you and your spouse to stay with them temporarily? Or atleast just agree for the purposes of the application?
Where are you currently? Would you not be able to use accommodation you are in now?

No unfortunately not. I am currently living with family, but as I'd be bringing my wife and step-daughter, the accommodation falls just outside the occupancy requirements.
The fact is I wouldn't bring them here until I'm already moved into the new house, it's just I was hoping the be able to apply for the visas in April, as it may take a few months to get a decision.
That way I would be able to bring them here in July/August and my step -daughter could start school as normal as the start of September. But maybe we will have to wait a few more months. :(

Hello,

Just an update to our situation:

Some friends have offered to let us use their address on the Visa application.
They own their own house, which is mortgage free, and have 2 spare bedrooms which we could use.
We in reality would not stay there as come June/July our new house should be ready, and my wife and stepdaughter would then come here in August, once the visas were approved.

The only worry is that they live in a different part of the country to where we are buying, and that I currently live.
Their location is still a viable commute to my workplace though, in case they check this sort of thing.
As I say though we would not actually stay there, it is just to allow us to apply for the visa as soon as possible, so as not to cause any delays.

Do you think this is a viable solution?
And if so what paperwork do I need from them? I'm thinking:
1. copy of land registry deeds
2. copy of council tax bill
3. letter from them giving consent (what should they write in this?)
4. An independent property inspection report (Is this necessary? If so, how do I arrange one?)

Are copies acceptable or do they need to be certified?

Thanks for your help.

If this works, it would be a great weight off our mind!
