Please help!

Post by angelstar1007 » Wed Mar 05, 2014 1:12 pm

In June 2013 my boyfriend was working on a cruise ship and because of poor working conditions decided to quit. Before he handed in his notice he was fired and asked to leave the ship the same day. I was visiting him in Oslo at the time and we decided that due to him being in a foreign country he should fly back to UK with me and book his flight home to the USA whilst at my house ( Internet coffee etc available) He was denied entry to the UK at terminal 5 and was held for 17 hours before being returned to the US. He then applied for a visitors visa and explained that I was now his fiancée and I would happily accommodate him for his 2 weeks stay and have all requires required evidence in support of his application. He has had a DUI conviction in the US and gave all paperwork relating to this as well. His application was declined because they didn't believe his stay would be 2 weeks on the grounds that I was his fiancée and that he was self employed as a Jazz musician and because he has a record of a DUI. My Mum is very sick and I would really like him to be able to visit me as at the moment I am going to the US to see him. Is there any way to get him here to be able to see my mum and the rest of my family just for 2 weeks?

Not easy now his UK immigration record is blighted.

Only sure way is to show plenty of ties to home, that he can afford his stay, that he has reasons to return. To be brutally honest I wouldn't hold out too much hope, as with having a UK inamorata, it's difficult to show he would be a genuine visitor.

Oh dear. My mum has cancer and is too unwell to travel. We both really want him to meet my mum before it's too late. Does anyone know if you can talk to a real person and just explain that he only needs to come for a couple of weeks

If only it were that simple. Unfortunately Wanderer is right. Of course as you're engaged you could apply for a fiance visa. You'd have to marry in the UK within 6 months. That's assuming you meet the financial requirement of annual earnings of at least £18,600.

Thanks Casa. I do have the amount of income specified in the visa requirements but we won't live here I just want him to be able to visit. My mum doesn't have that long!
