Quick questions after spouse visa approved

Post by tbbcuk » Mon Mar 10, 2014 3:27 pm

My wife's visa application in Hong Kong has just been granted. She has been given 33 months visa. I want to ask

(1) Can she leaves 1 month after the visa start date? will the immigration officer in Heathrow ask her why she waits for 1 month before travelling?

(2) Am I right that she can apply for FLR after the 30th months of her stay in the UK?

(3) Does she need to bring any specific documents with her on arrival? what is most likely questions they will ask her?

Thank you so much to answer my enquiry, very much appreciated.

Your wife can leave at any time but the Home Office gives three months to prepare to relocate to the UK. So one month will pose no problem at Immigration. The disadvantage in leaving after more than three months is that she would have to apply for an extension before applying for FLR, causing more stress and additional cost.

Yes, she can apply for FLR no sooner than 28 days from the date of expiry of her current visa.

It would be a good idea to have on her some of the documents she submitted when applying for the visa. She may be asked where she will be living, some information about you and your relationship and you should make sure your cell phone is on so the IO can contact you if necessary.

Your wife may also be asked if you're waiting for her arrival at the airport.

Once she has resided in the UK for 30 months she is eligible to apply for FLR. If she travels within the first 3 months then she can apply sooner than 28 days before the visa expiry date.

My husband carried his application documents in his hand luggage as we didn't know what he may be asked to present on arrival. Howver when he landed all he was asked was where and when we got married and his address here in the UK, and the officer wished him luck with his life in the UK.
