Can you help?– Im going in circles on the government website!

My wife, a USA citizen entered UK on a spouse entry visa April 2013 and we have both been working here since, so our next application will be the FLR in about 2 ½ years from entry. Im a UK citizen from birth

My question is do we need to make the £18,600 income for every tax year of the 2 ½ years or just £18,600 in the 12 months prior to date of application of the FLR

Eg could we earn minimum £18,600 combined salary the first year, nothing the 2nd year then make sure we earn £18,600 in the period 12 months prior to date of application ?

I keep finding statements saying you must have income of 18,600 per year but is that each and every year of the period?
Last thing I would want is to have to start again AND PAY again after thinking its half over!

You only need to show at the time of applying that the sponsor or applicant or both sponsor and applicant combined salaries per year is at least £18,600 and you've been employed at the job for not less than six months when the application is submitted.

You are not expected to earn £18,600 every year from the time the visa was granted, what's important is the six months prior to submitting the application.

As sponsor and applicant can combine their annual salary to meet the £18,600 requirement, it should not be a difficult task to achieve this.
