Can I switch from 10 year route to 5 year route?

Post by finegirl » Sun Mar 01, 2015 10:27 pm

Hi

My partner is currently on the 10 year route to settlement following his application in 2012 to remain with our child and I who are British citizens (we've had an additional baby since then). He was granted 30months which finishes this September 2015.

He is now able to meet the financial requirement with his current annual salary of 30000 pounds. so I would like to know if he can switch from the 10 year route to the 5 year route. And if so can the time he has spent on the 10 year route count towards the 5 year
route? Also which is preferable, to do it as partner or as parent?

Any help will be hugely appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

Hi there,

Yes he can switch however I believe this will 'reset' his time in the UK so he would have to complete 5 years as a spouse/parent depending on the route.

I can't comment on which route is better, however I don't think it would matter that much...
