1800 £ IHS for Spouse visa ??

Post by tripas33 » Sun Sep 20, 2015 10:21 am

Hello Friends,

My wife is applying for spouse visa from India. I have a ILR visa.
While submitting the online form she needs to make the payment for IHS surcharge.
The IHS calculator is misleading and confusing.

One of the section says , main applicant's Visa expiry date.
My visa expiry is in June -2024.
After entering this date on the IHS form , it calculates the IHS of £ 1800 !!!!!

Is this correct ?
What visa expiry date should I enter to calculate the IHS ?

Thxs

You're not the main applicant, your spouse is. IHS is not due on ILR....

Can you tell , what details should I put in IHS webpage so I get the right amount to pay as It asks the main applicant's ( which is me) details. ?

My visa is Indifinte and expires on June-2024 ?

Thanks

Isn't your wife the main applicant? You're not applying for anything...

You ILR is indefinite but the BRP card expires, usually when the photo on it 10 years old, like on a driving licence.

I've never seen the IHS webpage so I can't say exactly howe to fill it in, but it sounds to me like its thinking you are the visa applicant.

Hello Mate,

Sounds you are right ! But the IHS calculator is confusing.

To calculate IHS it give 3 options.

Are you...
Applying alone
Coming to the UK with dependants
Applying to join somebody (a main applicant) in the UK

If I select option -1 'Applying alone' for settlement then IHS is £ 600
If I select option -3 'Applying to join somebody (a main applicant) in the UK' then it asks for details of person you are joining in UK along with his Visa end date and calculates IHS to £ 1800

For my wife , I think both options 1 and 3 are applicable , confused which one is the right one !!

You are not the main applicant, you have ILR and are therefore settled in the UK. As said, your wife is the applicant. Option 3 is only for someone who is a dependant of a visa holder (the main applicant) in the UK.

She selects "Applying alone".
Her visa route is "settlement"
Her visa type is "wife".

If you are filling this in for her then make sure you fill it in as if you are your wife. i.e. if she is applying from outside the UK then that is what you put.

Her IHS will be £600 for her 33 month spouse visa.

Have a play with the calculator to make sure you get it right.

Suggest let your wife apply; let her use her female intuition.
