Hi All,
Just a headsup to follow debates in both Houses of Parliament this week touching on immigration.
Onb 7th March, the Commons will debate a three hour (4:30PM - 7:30PM) "take note" Backbench Business Committee motion in Westminster Hall on the e-petition 118060 relating to the income threshold for non-EU citizens settling in the UK.
Watch the video feed here (after the debate starts at 4:30 PM on the 7th)
If you are in the vicinity of Westminster, members of the public can watch the debate in person. After going through security, ask the Visitor Guides where the Westminster Hall debates take place and you will be guided to the public galleries.
On 9th and 15th March, the Lords debate the Immigration Bill 2015. While it is likely to go through, as it is a government bill, the Lords are likely to debate amendments proposed by the Liberal Democrats in the past about relaxing conditions for Adult Dependent Relatives. The Lords are not as tightly scheduled as the Commons (which means that they have more time to debate the issue in more detail) and so it is not possible to state what time the specific debate on ADRs will be, but it will be worth reading the debate in Hansard the next day or watching the video feed on Parliament Live.
Report stage is the most potent stage in the passage of a bill for amendments independent of the government to be made. I have provided information in another thread providing more details on lobbying members of the House of Lords.
