Question about HSMP dependent visa

Hi there,
I am new member on this forum and found this site very helpful and filled with loads of information. Thank you for the effort in putting this together.

I have a few questions regarding my move to UK as a Dependent HSMP.

Let me elaborate on my current situation so that I can get some helpful advice.

I am a Indian citizen currently working in the US. I plan to get married to a Indian citizen who is currently working in UK on a HSMP visa. We plan to get married in the US during the last week of April 2008 and move to UK together.
I also have a visitor visa for UK which is valid till July 15 2008. Now my questions to you are

1. How do I go about applying for a dependent HSMP visa while I am in the US.
2. What are my options, so that I am able to start work after I land in UK. Provided I am not able to get a dependent HSMP visa.
3. Are there any other options for me ?.

I tried reading up the forums to see if these questions were addressed but unfortunately I couldn't find satisfactory answers.
