Spouse Passport expiry

Post by crem31 » Fri Sep 12, 2008 9:27 pm

Hi to you all,

My wife in Kenya and I here in U.K.I have a question and can't seem to find an answer to quickly enough is how many months does my wifes passport need to be valid for? It will expire in May 2009 which gives us around 6 or 7 months after application.

Does anyone know the acceptable life of a passport for a spouse coming to U.K. Once she is here she will in time send passport to the Kenyan High Commision in London for renewal.

Alternatively should she renew now?

Would welcome your views or direction to information.

I think the passport should be valid for at least six months! And if your UK High Commission is anything like mine (it took a whole year to get a new passport in my married name), I think it would be better to get a new passport from home, before coming to the UK. At least that gives you one less thing to worry about when she's here. :)

Yes, that passport life would be acceptable (to the UK, although the airline might jump up and down if it has less than six months' validity on it).

It would be much easier for her in every way if she renewed her passport before she leaves Kenya; as noted above, it's one less thing to worry about later.

Many thanks Rozen and Christophe for your replies, I will get her to renew as a matter of urgency.

Cheers
