Taking english test early for FLR (M)?

Post by 777GE90 » Thu Jun 16, 2022 7:49 pm

Hi, my wife arrived in the UK a year ago and we were thinking of taking the next English test early.

I understand the requirement is minimum A2, but we were thinking if she does B1 now then she can use that when she applies for FLR (M) in Dec 2023 / Jan 2024 and then also re-use the same B1 when she finishes her 5 years for ILR.

We were thinking of getting the B1 test done next month, pretty much 1.5 years in advance to the first extension date.

So my questions are:
1. Is there any reason this plan would be a bad idea?
2. Which test agency should she use? Do they have different formats or are all the tests exactly the same? E.g. what is the difference between Trinity vs IELETS?

2. Which test agency should she use? Do they have different formats or are all the tests exactly the same? E.g. what is the difference between Trinity vs IELETS? The choice is yours to make. They are to be done to particular standard of CEFR

Ok thanks, we were thinking of doing it early so it is a stress free process (i.e. no issue if she fails and it's one less thing to worry about when it comes to renewal time), also if she does B1 now then she should be able to re-use that same B1 when she does ILR after 5 years.

That's all true and fine. Not saying there will be however what happens should there be a policy change regarding meeting the English language requirement.

Ye I suppose that's the only risk we have to take, but worst case scenario she just has to sit the test again. Although, I think it will be unlikely to change.

Thanks for your help.
