Invalid Marriage

Post by stbl1762 » Wed Nov 29, 2023 5:52 am

I'm a UK citizen and married my Moroccan wife 5 years ago in the UAE, at the time of our marriage I was still married to my now EX wife, this is perfectly legal in the UAE and males are not required to show any evidence of been single etc. We are now considering moving back to the UK and applying for the required settlement visa for my wife but I believe our marriage will not be accepted?

What options do we have as we are legally married in the UAE so cannot get married again here, can we marry in the UK even though we are both already legally married in the UAE or does that not matter?

Thanks

Just been having a read about unmarried partner visa, seems technically we would meet the requirements for this as we have lived together in the UAE for 5 years.

Is my assumption on this correct?

Are you divorced from your EX-spouse now? Or just separated?
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!

Yes, divorced since 4 years ago.
The authenticity of your marriage would always come into question. As you know, polygamy isn't a thing in the UK. You could always get married again in the UK. So you might want to go the Fiancé route. Others might advise differently.
You would need to move to the UK first and get a job. Except you have a lot of cash sitting around somewhere.
