Eligibility for 5 year partner route

Will previous overstaying prevent a visa under the Appendix FM 5-year partner route if all other suitability and eligibility requirements are met? The applicant currently holds a private life visa based on 20 years of continuous UK residence.

Overstaying has nothing to do with switching visa routes.
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!
