Need urgent help on expired passport

My children UK visa is about to be renewed in 5 days and their indian passport is expired and already applied for a new passport.we are yet to recieve it.While trying to fill UK visa application with old passport, it is not letting me progress.What shall I do? When I checked with indian embassy they said that it is still in shipment and they don't have clear answer. What shalli do now.?
