Applying for a visa from not your home country!

Post by Hawkwind » Tue Jul 21, 2009 9:38 am

Hi All

Maybe someone can help and put my mind at rest.

I`m British and am currently residing in South Africa on a six month work contract, I have my Indonesian wife and daughter with me.

They currently have six month South African visas`s to allow them to stay with me.

Now my company has requested that I return to the UK for five weeks work there.

What I need to know is can my wife and daughter apply for a UK visitors visa in South Africa or do they have to apply in Indonesia itself!.

The visa offices and embassies are not particularly helpful, so if anyone could clarify this we would very greatfull.

Best wishes Alan & Family

well ,as long as they have a permit to stay in any country they can apply then for a visa to the UK at the British embassy or the UK visa section in this country.
I myself applied once for a visit visa to the UK from the country which i have a residence visa in it.

While you are in South Africa, you might also want to apply for a Schengen region visa in case you want to visit the continent during your UK trip. It must be issued for free and with the minimum of fuss. http://eumovement.wordpress.com/2007/04 ... u-citizen/

Note that the UK can and will likely charge you for the visa.

When you enter SA legally my understanding you can apply there.
UK visa can not be issued in some countries. I know Syrian guy went to Lebanon sometime ago to apply for a visa to the UK(I don't know now if it's possible in Syria).
it's more like there is some kind of a regional centre (a head country) for the UK visa services so people in the(neighborhood) countries can apply..
