child born in uk, dad is british

Hello,

Could anybody give me advise pls? I m student here for 7 years and non-EU. I have a little child (3 years old, born in the mid of June 2006). Her dad is a british by decent (he's been living in UK and his family too). However, when my child was born it was mess in our lives. I didn't put his name on the birth certificate, as i didn't know anything about laws in UK. Now I like to register her as a british born but they say I need him to sign a birth certificate or have DNA test either court papers. I have none of them and we re not in touch with my ex. He pays child maintenance and i have all evidence from her birth. Solicitors say it is not enough. Is any way to register her pls?
