UK Citizenship Application - Outside UK after Eligibility

Post by Spartac » Tue Aug 25, 2009 8:34 am

Hi all,

Just wanted to know if its mandatory to be in the UK once the citizenship criteria has been met and the application has been filed. I understand that the time from initial application to approval / oath can be about 6 months. Is it possible to manage that process from outside the UK.

I am eligible to apply for my citizenship early next year but it looks increasingly likely that I might be posted away from the UK around that time.

Many thanks

Subject to Processing your application, you are expected to attend the Citizenship ceremonies, unless you are married/civil partner to a British citizen (Chapter 6: General Information > Chapter 6 > Transfers from the UK to abroad 6.11.22.11).

Many thanks Vinny.

So basically if I apply before I leave, and arrange to travel back to attend the oath taking ceremony, if the application is approved, I would comply with all requirements. Is that correct?

Regards

Yes. However, make sure that you are contactable and able to return when required.
