Fiance Visa

Post by jenqvist » Tue Aug 30, 2005 11:58 am

Hi, my boyfriend is a British citizen and I am from Singapore. We met about a year ago in Germany, fell in love and are intending to get married this year and therefore I need to apply for a fiance visa. Does anyone know how long it takes to process the fiance visa at the British High Commission in Singapore? Thanks.

The confusing part now is that my boyfriend is still waiting for his divorce to go through. Would I be able to apply for a Fiance Visa when he has only a Decree Nisi?

jenqvist, I regret not ..... well certainly not without some guaranteed extra information.

The problem is that whilst it can be just six weeks between the Decree Nisi and the Decree Absolute, it can be substantially longer than that. It is often the case that there are ancillary matters to be sorted out .... children .... financial matters .... and it is not rare for the Court to order that the Decree Absolute shall not be applied for until such ancillary matters are dealt with. I have a tax client who got their Decree Nisi about two years ago and it will be at least a few months more before the Decree Absolute will be issued.

So if it is going to be the standard six week delay then, well, you might as well just wait that out. You might be able to persuade an embassy to issue a fiancé(e) visa slightly ahead of the Decree Absolute, but why go to the bother?
