Hi! Just a last check up before applying.

Post by Monyk » Wed Sep 21, 2005 9:03 pm

Hi! I am posting this as I am flying back to Mexico to apply for my spouse Visa in two weeks and I just to make a last check up before I go. I still have two concerns. One that we live with my parents in law in the house they rent from the school which they work for, and as the school is property of the council therefore is kind of a council house, right? Althoug we live in the school grounds (I am a bit confused here). I first thought that even if it is a council house we are not the people renting it so it shouldn't affect us. The second one is that my husband used to have two jobs at the same time until recently but as he got a promotion in the company he's working he quit the other job so I've included payslips from both jobs as they appear in his bank statements.

This is the list of documents I am including in my application:

1. My husband's passport certified copy (A solicitor did it for us), My passport and a copy. Our birth certicates and copy of each one.

2. Photos from our holidays and birthdays, and photos from weddings we have gone to(from our families and friends, so far 3 in this year). Cards, wedding photos (including invitations and wedding album), E-mails (I included all the emails we have ever sent to each other which are about 110 of them). Wedding cards sent to us from another countries from our families. A letter from my hubby stating his education, work experience, future prospects and accommodation (he also stated my work experience and education). This letter was more like a sworn statement (we were already at the solicitors office so we got it as a sworn statement the same with the letter from his parents).

3.A letter from my husband's parents stating the number of rooms in the house (3 of which just 2 are in use) and that they don't mind us living with them (until we can get our own place). We also have a letter from the school stating that they don't mind me living in the house with them. And I included the tenancy agreement and copies.

4.I include my husband's contracts from his actual job and 6 months payslips from both jobs (P60's from both). I have a letter from his employer affirming that he works for them and how long he has been working there. A Statement that explains why we have no savings (as we paid for our wedding no long ago). And a letter confirming that he has never claimed benefits.

5.I also included a letter from an employer offering me a job and jobs I have found which I think I could apply for.

One more thing, in the application it asks if you have ever lived together even after marriage and we have for a year Although we only have 4 motnths married (I have a letter sent by the council to both of us in relation to when we gave notice of our marriage, I also have bills from my opticians if I can use that as prove). The question here is: Is the fact the have lived together (I overstayed) going to help or to harm?

They ask when was the last time you saw your husband (sponsor) In my case I would be answering yesterday as I am applying the next day after my arrival to Mexico. And when they ask for evidence of contact would mobile phone messages and calls count? I mean it is going to be a day literally. I am staying for one night in Mexico City to be able to apply and I know they would ask me to travel back there for an interview but in this case what can i use as evidence? More emails?

We have a weeding from some dear friends at the end of November and I have the invitation could that rush the process up a bit?

Sory about making this so long but I just want to be sure that I dont forget anything. Otherwise they would have to send me whatever I need and I would have to travel all the way to the embassy every time I need something (which is about £100 per trip).

Anyway thank you very much for all the information all of you have posted here as this has been very helpful.

I am just hoping everything goes fine.

I have a big folder with separated folders inside each one belongs to each thing I hope all this is enough.

Well thank you very much. And sorry for making this so long.

Monica :D

Please let me know is there is anything I am forgetting about, by the way do you think £14000 a year would be considered anough as we live in a little town in the merseyside and not in london where is more expensive?

Hi Monyk, that's pretty comprehensive! Apart from :-
  • Just picking up on the accommodation aspect, ignoring any toilet, bathroom or Spam, how many rooms in the house are over 50 sq feet in size? Also, assuming the visa is granted, how many people will be living in the house? And if any of those people are children, their ages?
  • Also, you mention your husband's bank statements and presumably they will be included. Any bank statements for you?

Hi! thank you for answering. Well, we measured the house 5 rooms are bigger than 50 sq feet (without counting bathrooms and Spam which are bigger than 50 sq feet aswell), and from those 5 rooms one is the living room the other one is the studio and 3 bedrooms of which only two are in use. The other one is basically empty. If the visa is granted there will be only 4 people living in the house including me(my husband's brother lives in another house they rent for him close to his university so he doesn't live with us). There's no children it is only the 4 us. I think we have plenty of space. But what do u think?

Also, you mention your husband's bank statements and presumably they will be included. Any bank statements for you?
What do you mean with bank statements for me? I mean I haven't got a bank account as I don't work. Is that what you meant with bank statements for me?I am including six months of bank statements and six months of payslips. Would that be enough? I am guessing yes. Or at least I hope.

And about the fact of living together do you think that would be a good thing or a bad one?

Thank you for answering. I really appreacite it. :D

Hi Monyk,

I think the fact that you have lived together is a good thing.

My husband got his spouse visa in April this year and he put in the application form that we had lived together both before and after marriage. We had lived together in the UK for about a year prior to marriage and that whole time he was an overstayer. I wrote in my statement that we had moved in together to get a realistic idea of what marriage would be like. The Embassy didn't ask any questions.

Good luck!

Monyk, on the subject of the accommodation, if you look at this and in particular 6.3 on overcrowding, you will see that if there are five "counting rooms" then the place would not be considered overcrowded unless more than 10 people lived there! As only four will be living there there is clearly not a problem.

However why not include a statement of the accommodation facts in your evidence folder clearly showing that you have passed that test. And indeed include a couple of photos if only to prove that the place is not falling down.

Bank statements? If you don't have a bank account then don't worry about that.

Living with your husband? Absolutely essential that you say so .... why not? It is what loving married couples do!

My husband's parents included the number of rooms and their sizes in their statement. And I am including some photos of the house and the school so that they can see that we actually live in the school grounds.

Also I am including an invitation to a wedding of some close friends, do you think that they would speed up the process a bit?

Well, I hope I dont forget anything. Do you know if there's a minimum amount of yearly income that they accept? My husband earnings are of £14K a year would that be enough?

Sorry about all these questions I am just nervous.

Thank you.

I think everything is pretty much covered I a just can't help feeling nervous.
