visa refusal letter

hi,

I came uk as student and in 2007 i got work permit for 5years till 2012.Unfortunately i got marry in 2008 and convinced by wife to change visa to spouse visa.Problems came on the way and my inlaws keep me busy in reconcilation of the problem but on the other hand they write to home office that marriage finished and give them adress where i had no access.i never recieve any letter from home office but i was worried about my visa.I went to solicitor and asked him to find out about my visa status.he contacted the home office and tell me that my visa is still valid.I applied for ILR on basis of my 10 years long residence.Visa refused on the grounds that my visa was cancelled year before about which i was totally unaware.

Please help me what can i do?
