Seeking advice for UK settlement visa application for spouse

Post by RichardGray10 » Sun Mar 27, 2011 11:10 pm

Hi all,

I'm new to this board so any information will be greatly appreciated.

I am a 24 year old UK citizen currently working on a international internship in Orlando, Fl, my fiancée is a 22 year old US citizen also living in Orlando, Fl. We are getting married on the 2nd of July and were hoping to be able to return to the UK after that. Both of us are college graduates and I do have a job to go back to when I return home already sorted out, however since I have not been in the UK since last June, there has been no activity in my Bank Account there except my parents putting some money in monthly to keep the account active.

Accommodation wise we will be staying in my parents house (which they own outright)which will include our own wing of the house including individual Spam, bathroom, large bedroom and also our own living area.

As we are aware that there has been no activity on my bank account my parents want to either guarantee that she will not become a financial burden on public funds if they are not satisfied with my income status or transfer money from my savings account into my current account to prove this.

Moreover since we are getting married on July 2nd, do we have to wait until then to apply for the visa or can we apply early using evidence such as wedding invitations, ceremony and reception bookings and invoices to prove this is when we are getting married?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated
Regards

I am new as well but I recently received my spouse visa and moved to the UK with a similar background. My husband (UK citizen) and I (US citizen) met while we were travelling and married last November in the US.

All you should need are your monthly statements of your current and savings accounts. My husband was not working while he was in the U.S. and we just included a statement explaining why he did not have an income at that time. Also, you should include letters from parents detailing the money they give you, your future employer in the UK, and I included my university transcripts to show I was employable (as well as my bank statements and so on).

As for accommodation, we also live with my husbands mom now, and she provided us with a letter stating that we have permission to reside at her house, Land Registry Document and Housing Report (showing sufficient space for everyone)

You will need to be married when you apply because you have to send a marriage certificate but it is probably a good idea to start gathering all your necessary documents now.

We did not start gathering documents until after we were married and my husband had to return to the UK and it took us about 2 months to gather everything but it only took 2 1/2 weeks for me to receive my visa once we turned it in.

Hope that helps a bit :)
