Canadian with a child born in Belfast - what to do visa-wise

Post by AMACinBelfast » Tue Jul 26, 2011 3:10 pm

Hi everyone,

Right, I think this is in the right forum now...

LONG AND SHORT:

My son was born here in Belfast just 3 weeks ago. My girlfriend (met when she was on a working holiday in Toronto 2 years ago. We're not registered as civil partners, unmarried) in a UK national and an citizen of the R.O.I. Im here as a visitor, nothing more.

All I want is to be able to remain and help support my girlfriend and son i.e. a working visa.

I have Irish and UK blood but its a couple generaitons removed so as far as applying for citizenship goes that wont happen for me.

Does anyone know if: is there a type of visa out there related to the fact that I have a dependant? As far as I know, having a child born here entitles me to nothing. There are plenty of ways I can simply STAY here, but I need to be able to work. Diapers are expensive!

Any guidance/advice is most helpful. Anything. Feel free to mock me as well.

Panicked thanks,

AMAC
