FLR M extension - English language Requirement - Can B1 substitute for A2?

Post by KVP » Wed Jun 20, 2018 11:12 am

I understand the following with respect to English Language requirement (UK Life skills) for FLR M visa leading to 5 year route to Settlement.

A1 is required for initial FLR M
A2 for extension after 33 months
B1 for ILR

I would kindly ask you that if B1 can be accepted for A2 as per current rules?

Please note my spouse got FLR M using A1 in Sep 2016, and she will need to prepare for A2 for the extension (due in May 2019).

But she can prepare for B1 straight away if B1 can be accepted for FLR M extension as well as ILR later.

Can someone help me to find link for relevant statement/rule?

Many thanks.

Thank you CR001. it would be great if you can provide link or quote paragraph/statement. I just want to see the rule for peace of mind.

The form will ask for A2 but B1 is acceptable as it is a higher level than A2.

There is no specific 'link or rule' that states this. Many members have had success using B1 for FLR(M) extension.

Thank you CR001 and Vinny.

Sorry, one more question arising when I look at the link (below provided by Vinny) all tests are valid for 2 years only.
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/immigration ... age-tests

Question: Let's assume that my spouse uses B1 test for FLR-M extension, should she take B1 test again when applying for ILR after 2.5 year because it will expire before then? :?

Thank you.

Hi

If you apply for FLR m using a B1

you can use this for your set m even if it is expired

Indefinite leave applications
The English language test must have been taken no more than 2 years before the date of application. However, tests that have been taken more than 2 years ago and have since expired, can still be accepted where the qualification:
• is from one of the providers on the current SELT list
• has previously been accepted by us as part of another immigration application, such as for entry clearance. A qualification that is not from one of the providers on the current SELT list, is not acceptable even if previously accepted by us as part of another application
