Lost Passport and BRP pls HELP

Post by VikasMandal » Fri Sep 18, 2020 6:32 am

Posting on behalf of a family friend

Recently one of my family friend lost her Passport and BRP while travelling within UK
Does she needs to apply and get a passport first before reporting lost BRP and applying for replacement.
Due to Covid delays what if she doesn’t get a new passport within 3 months of reporting a lost BRP (as replacement is required to be applied within 3 months of reporting a loss of BRP)
I have read somewhere that Passport is not required to apply for BRP replacement if it is like to like replacement and within 2 years, is this valid?

Without a valid passport & passport number the application won't proceed/move further.

Any suggestion what should be done in this case?
Due to covid situation if new passport is not available within 3 months then how can she submit BRP replacment application within 3 months

If it has happened very recently, then owlishly wait a bit before reporting it as lost/stolen with the optimism as this might have came in safe hands who might attempt to deliver it to you. Otherwise you will have to apply the passport first as a pre-requisite of BRP.

Can she apply for BRP with the lost passport number, she has the soft copy of the passport and once she gets the BRP then she can apply for new passport.
Since its like to like BRP replacement, passport is not a mandatory docuement to be submitted?

It would be a risky manoeuvre and if will be caught later, then will fall under the remit of deception.

I would see if there's a way for her to apply for a passport through some fast-track process, seeing as she will need to do so before applying for a replacement BRP, which she must do within three months. There's sure to be some emergency process available by which she can get a passport quickly. Maybe she can apply in person through making an appointment at the Embassy for her country? This is what my American wife did in order to get an emergency US passport for our child a few days before an intended flight, only to end up losing her own BRP on the way to the Embassy (meaning she couldn't travel). We are now applying for a replacement BRP ourselves.

Thanks, that helps. There is a emergency passport issuance service with her country’s embassy that re-issues passport in a day.
As she is the main applicant, do all her dependents as well need to apply for their Biometric replacement even though they haven’t lost it?
Also, she is being optimistic and trying to track it where she lost it. When is the right time to report to Home Office, can she wait (few days or a month) untill she is 100% sure she can’t find it/won’t get it

Just saw the below on UKVCAS website

https://www.ukvcas.co.uk/help-support/o ... eDocuments

“If your passport is with UKVI or it has been lost or stolen, you will be allowed to proceed with your appointment if you bring another acceptable form of identification. If you don’t bring your passport or another acceptable form of identification to the appointment you will need to cancel and rebook your appointment.”

That quote is only relevant where someone is attending the biometrics appointment at UKVCAS as part of his/her submitted application. And for submitting an online application you must have a valid passport because of its details will be asked whilst filling up that form.

She has not yet reported a loss as she is not 100% sure that it has been lost, so technically her passport is still valid (she has photocopy of all pages).
Can she not submit the application with same passport details and then in few days report loss of passport and attend biometric with some other id

Not a bad idea because technically you will be covered.

Just a happy update
She got both her Passport and BRP back today posted to her place by Royal mail.
A person who found it posted on the address mentioned on her passport (luckily she had her UK address on her passport when she renewed it)
Miracles do happen when there is trust and postiveness
Thanks all for your guidance here
