Do we need a COA?

Post by HMRB » Tue Mar 02, 2010 10:48 am

I recently got my ILR and I want to get married to a HSMP holder. Do we need to apply for a certificate of approval to get married in the UK?

Please don't make multiple posts on the same topic.

Yes, unless:
1. the person you wish to marry is a national of a country in the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland, or the family member of a national of the EEA who has the right of residence in the United Kingdom, or
2. you both can marry within the Anglican Church in Engalnd and Wales.

See Can I get married or register a civil partnership in the United Kingdom?.
