My family is thinking of moving to Australia?

Post by Bribes » Sat Nov 29, 2008 11:37 pm

My parents want to move to Australia, but they looked through various sites and apparently they're too old for the visas. My mom is forty-eight and my father is almost fifty-three. We currently live in Los Angeles, California.

There's no way me and my sister can just go right away, because I'm only sixteen and she's only twenty.

All of our family members are also in Los Angeles, so that rules out the whole "get your dad's sister to sponsor all of you" thing.

I read up on it and I heard that the only way is to move over there and start up a business.

I really feel like we should move because me and my father have quite a few friends over there. We have been friends with these people for many years but obstacles came up and they ended up over there (ex. my dad knew these people when he grew up in Vietnam but they moved to Australia afterwards, and I know some foreign exchange students from my high school).

Can anybody help me out? Thanks in advance!

I just looked there, but it only confirms what I already said: there are only three types of visas. The first one limits people over forty-five, an age which my parents have passed by several years. The second one is to get a family member to sponsor you, but they're all in Los Angeles as well. We can't try the third until we finish college, which won't be until at least 2011. That's why I'm asking for a quicker option and if anyone knew of anything else.

No offense, but that didn't really help.

This article gives an idea of what options may or may not be there:

There are some Australians who would love to move to the United States, too. Unfortunately, there is no reciprocal citizenship arrangement between the two countries.
