Visit to India after applying for Naturalization

Post by pvijays » Thu Jun 19, 2014 9:31 am

Hi ,
I am applying for naturalization from Brent NCS ON 23rd Jun, But my son is travelling to India on Indian passport on 15th July, and wife is travelling on 2nd August, and coming back on 3rd September.
Can you advise will there be any problem if we receive our naturalization before they go to India?
Regards
Vijay

Unlikely that it will be received by mid July or even the beginning of August.

Receiving naturalization approval letter does not mean anything until you receive Citizenship Certificate by attending the ceremony.

Once you got the citizenship, than yes it is real problem for you as Indian national, because you have to surrender your Indian passport immediately after taking British nationality.

You can travel on your Indian passport after applying for naturalization. Now as you are going to apply on 22nd of June, hopefully you should receive approval within 2 months (average processing time). Once the approval letter is received you have to book ceremony immediately.

I recommend to ask somebody check your post in your absence. As soon as you receive approval letter your ceremony will be booked by your council. So somebody should call council to change ceremony date according to appropriate travel arrangements.

Bet of luck!

Ceremony needs to be booked within 2-3 weeks of receiving the invitation letter or the combined approval/invitation letter and the ceremony needs to be attended within 90 days of approval.

Your son will received his registration certificate in the post, so he will be British wef from the date on the certificate.

You and your wife will only be British once you both attend the ceremony and receive your naturalisation certificates.
