Reached UK on HSMP, How to get free health facilities

Post by CH » Tue Aug 14, 2007 2:45 pm

Dear All,
I've recently landed to UK. would appreciate if you could guide me about health facilities.
1) where should I go for a complete medical checkup
2) I need some to have some blood tests, what should be the wayout.
3) do we get optician's checkup free?
Thanks,
ch

Not 100% sure but -
1. You register with your local practice. Go to your local government website and read about healthcare there. Then find your local practice and register your whole family. I think you'd need to provide some proof of ID like a bill or bank statement or something.
2. Your local practice.
3. Opticians...under 18 = free, in full-time education = free, on benefits or other government funds = free, working full-time = not free, but not that expensive.

As a new immigrant, I suggest you go to your local government borough website and read up about things there.

Where do you live? If London, which region (postcode or borough)?

Hmm...btw, why do you want a medical check-up? If it is just a check-up for nothing, I don't think that would be necessary. I mean, it does cost money and equipment, so unless you have an emergency or other good reason, you probably don't want a check-up just for the sake of it.

Go to to NHS doctor and register there. Tell what your illness is and they will tell you what to do. It is free.
