OCI in Person - For Spouse and Kid

Post by anandh79 » Tue Dec 02, 2014 3:11 pm

Hi

I just applied OCI for myself today at London.

As my wife and kid are in India, they will be coming only by February. I was wondering whether they need to go in person to apply or can I go in person to apply for them?

I feel bit comfortable applying in person as it saves all hurdle of originals and any confusions. In my wife case, she has changed her name, so thought it would be good to go in person and get it clarified.

Alternatively, if by post, what originals do i need to send along with surrender certificate? I am getting mixed news that indian embassy do not accept SDE and only envelope with first class ? is this true?

Regards
Krish

Your two posts are conflicting in nature!!!

Currently my wife and kid are in India and they aim to return by feb end. Their OCI are ready for collection.

As I am going to India now, is it ok if i take their british passports, come to uk, stamp their OCI and I am going again on feb end to pick them up.

Does this create any problems in immigration as they are in tourist visa now and OCI being stamped in London ?

Reason is they intent to stay more time in India and will save travel time since their tourist visa will expire by March. Else they need to come get it stamped and then go back to india which will be so much of hassle

Hi

Apologies, i meant their OCI application is ready for submission.

The confusion is whether to apply in India or here. If i apply here, can i get their passports stamp it and take it back to india.

Will that create any problems?

How long are they planning to stay in India?

It's definitely not a good idea to bring their passport back to UK, whilst they are in India (as the passport will show India entry stamp) and submit for OCI.

If they are planning to stay in India for a good amount of time 4-6 months, they can apply from there.
Else submit here and get it stamped after return. HCI will retain OCI card for a reasonable period.

Alternately submit the application after return from india.
